Starting the season together: WYSPA picnic at Pole Mokotowskie
One of the first meetings organised as part of the “Warsaw — Our Place” project was a joint picnic for teenagers and parents at Pole Mokotowskie.
On 12 September, we met outdoors to spend a few hours together without a formal programme, without rushing and without the usual division between “adults” and “children”. We wanted to create a space where people could meet, talk, move around, play and simply enjoy being together.
Parents had their own chill-out area with picnic blankets, thermoses, homemade snacks, board games and plenty of time for conversation.
Teenagers had their own space with music, badminton, frisbee, sports activities and time with friends.
The meeting was organised in a Potluck / BYO format: participants brought their favourite snacks, tea and coffee, blankets, board games and sports equipment. As a result, an ordinary picnic quickly turned into a shared event that everyone helped to create.
For us, however, meetings like this are about more than simply relaxing.
“Warsaw — Our Place” is about creating a city where young people from different backgrounds can meet one another, build relationships, discover new places and gradually feel that Warsaw is also their city.
That is why informal face-to-face meetings are an important part of the project. Before creating media together, recording stories and developing a youth guide to Warsaw, it is important to get to know one another, listen to each other and begin to feel like a team.
Thank you to all the young people and parents who spent this day together with WYSPA.
More meetings, urban expeditions and plenty of joint work on Warsaw through the eyes of its young residents are still ahead of us.
The “Warsaw — Our Place” project is co-financed by the City of Warsaw.
